Who, What, Where, When, How, & Why of New Construction

Congratulations on making the decision to build your dream home! By choosing to build a home rather than buy a home, you have the advantage of getting a home that is customized to meet your every want and need. Before you move forward with the building process, however, there are some things that you will need to ask yourself.

Who will be living with me? We understand that this answer might be obvious to you (spouse, children, cat, dog, etc.), but think about what may be important for them as well. For example, do you plan to expand your family in the future? Would a large yard better accommodate the needs of your dog? Would an open-floor concept better accommodate get-togethers that your spouse likes to host?

What is my budget? It is important to determine what you can spend and what you are comfortable spending. Figure out all the costs involved in the building (and moving) process.

Where do I want to live? Consider factors such as the commute to work, distance from family and friends, and what type of environment you would like to see outside of your window.

When would I like to begin building? Make sure that your finances are in order and that you know what your wants and needs are.

How much space do I want? This includes both the home’s square footage as well as yard space. Think about your day-to-day activities and hobbies.

Why have I decided to build a custom home? This one may seem silly, but it is important to always remember what led you to choose a custom new-build home. Throughout the process you will have a lot of decisions to make, and you do not want to lose sight of the things that are most important to you and your family.
